Amsterdam is a colourful city to say the least. Well all I had ever heard about Amsterdam was the infamous red light district but little did I know that this city is worth so much more than just this uneasy popularity. I did not have a lot of time on my hand so I decided to go on a day trip to Amsterdam. Now after visited the city many times, I have put together a list of best day trips from Amsterdam.
Just 1 hour away from Amsterdam’s Centraal Station, this small city is a perfect day trip destination. It has got all the ingredients of a popular tourist destination, much like Amsterdam, like historic monuments, cobblestone streets and ancient little canals. Famous places you should definitely pay a visit to are Old Center where there are a beautiful structures and churches like Nieuwe Kerk and Oude Kerk. This place is also known for its ceramic ware. Do not forget to take a part of this beautiful tradition with you in the form of blue and white ceramic pottery, also called Defltware. And what would be a better place to buy it from than a place which has been crafting Defltware since 17th century – De Porceleyne Fles.
If you love clicking photographs, this is the place to visit. You will be awestruck by the view the traditional architecture and archaic windmills have to offer. The most way of reaching here is by biking. It is just 30 minutes away from the Centraal Station. Visit open-air museum or just take a delightful ride on the ferry around Zaan River.
Wooden bridges, greenery, windmills that stand witness to years of history, idyllic tree-line canals and all the beauty you can imagine in a place, resides in Leiden. The birth place of Rembrandt, this place seems too good to be real as it is filled with stuff that is only found in children’s story books, ‘an ideal town, with old windmills, centuries old church and the world’s oldest observatory.’ If you don’t have enough time, manufacture it to visit this place.
