With the festive season approaching, now is the perfect time to round up your family and friends and head down to London for a fun-filled weekend of activities.
Whilst in the city, a visit to Kensington Palace is definitely worthwhile, not only because of its grandeur and beauty, but because there is always so much going on at this historical landmark.
Nestled in the idyllic setting of Kensington Gardens, the palace is a royal residence that has been occupied since the 17th century.
Currently it is the official London residence of a number of notable royal figures including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Kent.
Today, the State Rooms are open to the public and managed by the independent charity Historic Royal Palaces, so why not take the opportunity to visit this gorgeous building and explore the wide range of activities available for the whole family to enjoy?
After a day spent marvelling at the beauty of the palace, head back to your suite at the Grand Royale London Hyde Park which we’re sure you will also agree is fit for a king.

Queen Victoria on TV :-
09 December 11am-12.30pm
This lunchtime lecture will give any Queen Victoria fanatics a superb insight into the popular ITV series, Victoria with talks from a number of special guests including Production Designer, Michael Howell. Come with questions prepared and listen as this highly-acclaimed designer discusses how he went about bringing these stories of royalty to our screens with Historic Royal Palaces’ Senior Curator, Deirdre Murphy.
Once the talk has finished, spend the afternoon exploring the Palace gardens and the King’s staircase, the lavish entrance to the King’s State Apartment which was decorated by William Kent.
When it’s time to put your feet up, head to one of our hotels near Queensway Station for some well-deserved rest.
Funtastic Saturdays :-
16th December 12pm-3pm
Ideal for all the family to enjoy, funtastic Saturdays is the perfect way to ensure the kids have fun and engage in with some history. From 12-2pm they will learn about Victorian puppet theatres and will have the opportunity to make their own puppets. This a great interactive activity and they’ll be able to take their new creation home with them. After that, story time commences, where Christmas themed tales are sure to get them excited as the big day is just around the corner. There is also Time Explorers Station, which includes a range of activities that will help them learn about Kensington Palace and its colourful past.
This jam-packed day is likely to leave the little ones feeling tired, so take them back to your room at Grand Royale London Hyde Park for some story time and a relaxing night’s sleep.

This festive themed day is sure to get the whole family excited for Christmas with a wide range of activities to excite and delight children of all ages. Learn why Christmas was such a special time for Queen Victoria and her family and find out what presents you would have been buying and receiving if you were born in the Victorian era. After, little ones will get to make their very own Victorian tree decoration and will be given an activity bag to explore the palace.
