London is one of the world’s most exciting cultural hubs, with a wealth of art on display across dozens of highly-rated museums. Many people flock to the capital purely to see the latest exhibitions, with the rosters at the Tate Modern, the National Gallery and the Barbican always changing.
If you’re thinking of visiting London to see some of the world’s finest art, the next few months are packed with fantastic exhibitions and inspiring collections, many of which are in close proximity to Grand Royale London Hyde Park. Here’s some of the art you simply can’t miss this month:
Bankside, London, SE1 9TG
You can always rely on the Tate Modern to deliver stunning exhibitions of world-class art – and the Modigliani exhibition currently on show certainly lives up to that expectation. The exhibition features a combination of the Italian artist’s iconic pieces and some of his lesser-known artwork, with almost 100 objects in the collection.
Visitors can trace Modigliani’s career from his first creations in the city of Paris, to his intimate portraits of friends and loved ones in his final years. A virtual-reality room also allows you to ‘step inside’ the great works and explore them in more detail than ever before. The exhibition is open until 18th April 2018, so there’s plenty of time to catch it while it’s still in London.
Trafalgar Square, London, WC2N 5DN
The National Gallery is located in Trafalgar Square, just a few stops away from our hotels near Queensway Station. Until 2nd April 2018, you’ll be able to see Jan van Eyck’s famous Arnolfini Portrait, and explore an exhibition explaining how the famous image influenced the work of other British artists and creatives in the 1800s.
The Arnolfini Portrait was created in 1434 and hailed as a masterpiece. When it was acquired by the National Gallery back in 1842, it captured the imaginations of a collective of young art students, who founded what came to be known as the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. In this exhibition, you can compare the Arnolfini Portrait with works from other Pre-Raphaelite artists, including William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rosetti.
Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London, SW7 2RL
Art doesn’t always have to be classical or traditional to inspire, as shown in this fantastic exhibition at the V&A – the largest one ever dedicated to this beloved character and his sweet cast of friends, including Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore. This exhibition is particularly family-friendly, so if you’re staying at the Grand Royale London Hyde Park with children, this would be a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
The collection showcases the wonderful illustrations that turned Winnie the Pooh into a children’s phenomenon, with original drawings by E. H. Shepard on show for the first time in four decades. Visitors can explore the close working relationship between Shephard and writer A. A. Milne – and younger visitors can take part in a range of activities that will surely keep them entertained.
