Fashion plays an important role in Britain’s economy, and twice a year the focus of the world’s fashion industry is on London when one of its most important trade events, London Fashion Week, takes place.
The Autumn/Winter edition of London Fashion Week 2013, which takes place in September, is organised by the British Fashion Council (BFC), and is centred on the BFC’s Somerset House base. The event features 60 catwalk shows on the official Schedule Plus 45 further off-schedule shoes, as well as more than 30 on-schedule presentations and salon shows. The Designer Showrooms, which run alongside the catwalk shows, showcase the work of more than 120 ready-to-wear and accessories designers.
Highlights of this year’s London Fashion Week include Tom Ford and L’Wren Scott showing off collections on the official schedule for the first time plus the return of Julien Macdonald to the event. Those new to the presentation schedule this year include Sophia Webster.
The dedicated BFC Rock Vault in the West Wing of Somerset House will showcase the work of ten fine jewellers including newcomer Alice Cicolini. As a part of the scheme the participating jewellers were invited to design a pair of red carpet earrings created from 20 grams of palladium; these designs will also be displayed in a unique installation within the area.
London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013 runs from Friday, September 13 until Tuesday, September 17.
